Volunteer Positions
Customer Service
Cashier - Responsible for ringing up customer purchases on cash register, bagging purchases and answering the telephone. May be trained on opening/closing procedures (running sales tape, counting money, preparing bank deposits, etc.). Responsible for working with customers, answering questions, and helping locate merchandise. Responsible for keeping the sales floor organized (hanging clothes, straightening shelves, keeping dressing room tidy, etc.).
Warehouse Clerks
Sorters - Responsible for receiving and separating usable and unusable items received as donations. Inspect all items to evaluate if they are usable by OATS standards. Separate donations into the proper categories and place in designated storage areas.
Appliance Inspector - Responsible for checking all small appliances received for proper operation. Ensuring that items are in good operating condition and clean and label them accordingly.
Laundry - Responsible for sorting clothing to be laundered according to label specifications, using stain remover, detergent and bleach as needed. Responsible for placing in dryer or hanging to dry, removing promptly, and placing in storage area.
Merchandisers
Clothing - Responsible for pricing, hanging and placing clothing on sales floor. Also responsible for performing quality check on each garment such as tears, stains, etc. that may have been missed in the previous sorting process.
Housewares, Linens, Books and Shoes - Responsible for inspecting, pricing, and placing items on sales floor accordingly.
Individuals must be 18 years of age to volunteer for the Once Around Thrift Shop, unless granted special permission by the manager. Normally, no minors are permitted in the warehouse area. Applications are required of all potential volunteers.
